Subject: Inaccuracies In Wheeler's THE OGDEN FAMILY IN AMERICA
Subject: Inaccuracies In Wheeler's THE OGDEN FAMILY IN AMERICA
Correction: I bow the the correcting review from the author of the book, JOHN OGDEN: THE PILGRIM (1609-1682.) I realize I mis-stated his information and that only the information regarding the birth location of John Ogden (b. 1609) and his wife Jane Bond is the suspect information.
I appreciate his correcting information and excellent scholarship and research in writing the book.

According to an Ogden descendant, Jack Harpster, and author of two Ogden family books, JOHN OGDEN: THE PILGRIM (1609-1682, published in 2006 by Farleigh Dickenson Univ. Press; and THE RAILROAD TYCOON WHO BUILT CHICAGO: A BIOGRAPHY OF WILLIAM B. OGDEN, published in 2009 by Southern Illinois Univ. Press; much of the material in Wheeler's book, THE OGDEN FAMILY IN AMERICA is inaccurate. According to Harpster, Wheeler was a con man who made up much of the genealogy. Harpster wrote his two books to set the matter straight. For more information on Jack Harpster and his two books, go to http://www.ogdenbooks.com.

Subject: CORRECTION
Subject: CORRECTION
Reviewer "Juanaquena" has inaccurately stated material from my book, "John Ogden, the Pilgrim (1609-1682) A Man of More Than Ordinary Mark," that I would like to clarify. Juanaquena states that I wrote in my book that much of the material in Wheeler's Ogden genealogy book is inaccurate, and that Wheeler was a con man who made up much of the genealogy. That is not what I wrote. I wrote that the genealogy of the Ogden family PRIOR to John Ogden's arrival in America in 1641 is inaccurate. That pre-America portion of the genealogy is only a small part of Wheeler's book, not "much of the material in Wheeler's book" as the reviewer states. Also, I DID NOT write that Wheeler was a con man. I wrote that Wheeler hired another genealogist, Gustave Anjou, to study and write the pre-America Ogden genealogy, and that Anjou was a con man. With the exception of that pre-America genealogy on the Ogden family, Wheeler's book is very reliable, and is as accurate as this type of genealogy
work (which is gathered from hundreds of different sources) can be.
